A new study presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) confirms what AIM Medical Imaging has known since its inception in 2009: Patients like to know what’s going on! At AIM, we take it a step further and show them.
For over five years, patients have chosen AIM for quick access MRI because there is always a radiologist onsite during the procedure. Immediately following each scan, the patient receives a one-on-one consultation with the radiologist, who presents the just-captured images, explains the diagnosis, visually points out any areas of concern, and opens up a dialogue in which the patient is welcomed to ask questions. After the consultation, each patient leaves with a digital copy of their images and a written report–in full control of their personal health information
The study, which enrolled 2, 562 participants, basically concluded that patients value timely, independent and convenient access to their medical records and images.
“We found almost unanimous agreement from patients on the value of having direct, independent access to their imaging exams,” says Dr. Giampaolo Greco of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. The study looked at the plausibility (and popularity) of giving patients online access to all their medical records via the RSNA Image Share, an internet-based system designed for both patients and providers to file and store their health records in.
